"And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus."
Ephesians 2:6.
When someone gives me a compliment, I either accept it wholeheartedly, accept it at face value (yet not believe it) or I ignore it totally.
The thing about accepting a compliment, a position, a title, or anything good is that the acceptance comes after belief. And belief comes from knowing. I can believe it when someone says I am light skinned because I can see it. I know it and I believe it.
What do you know and believe about who you are? Better still, what do you know about where you are seated? Sometimes it is easier to know you are the child of your Father than to know you are your Father’s beloved. It is time to know your position. Know that you are the son and daughter of the Father; and deeper, know your position there.
Because we are in Christ, we share in His position. This means that spiritually, we are seated with Him in the heavenly realms. This isn't just a future hope but a present reality. Our position in Christ grants us access to the heavenly realms, signifying our close relationship with God, our authority in Christ, and our victory over spiritual forces.
Recognising where we are in Christ helps us live with a sense of purpose, confidence, and security. It also helps us develop confidence in the face of fear, turmoil or setbacks. Most applicable is in the face of sin. The devil will convince you that your sin means God does not want to be close to you. Reject that lie. Remember you are seated with Him. Nothing can separate you from that presence.
Understanding our position in Christ involves knowing Him intimately. We are not just seated next to anyone; we are seated next to Jesus, the King of kings and Lord of lords. This proximity to Christ means we have direct access to His wisdom, love, and power.
This understanding pulls us into deepening our relationship with Him, to seek His guidance, and to align our lives with His will. Ask yourself- the way I know and love my best friend because of our intimacy, is it the way I am communing with my God whom I have the privilege of being seated next to?
To fully grasp our position, we must strive to know Jesus more deeply, better than we do with family and friends. This involves spending time in prayer, studying the Word, and living in obedience to His teachings.
Knowing Jesus intimately, which is equivalent to knowing our position transforms our lives and shapes our identity and purpose. The more we know Him, the more we understand His heart for us and His desire for us to live abundant, purposeful lives.
The more we know Him, the better we know ourselves and become stronger. Our position in Christ is a source of strength. Ephesians 6:10 urges us to "be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power." Being seated with Christ empowers us to stand firm against the challenges and trials of life. We draw our strength from our relationship with Him, knowing that we are not fighting alone but are backed by the power of heaven and conquer it. Jesus is seated because He has conquered the world. If we are seated with Him, then so have we.
Knowing our position in Christ equips us to do great things for His kingdom. Daniel 11:32 says, "The people who know their God will be strong and do exploits." Our union with Christ empowers us to live out our faith boldly, to serve others selflessly, and to make a difference in the world. When we recognise our heavenly position, we are emboldened to step out in faith and accomplish the extraordinary tasks God has prepared for us.
